Best gym software in Kolkata: what Kolkata gym owners should look for
By Himanshu Thakur, Founder, Jimwala · Updated · 6 min read
Kolkata had about 4.5 million people in the city and about 14.1 million in the metropolitan region in the 2011 Census. It is the main commercial centre of eastern India, and Bengali is the main language, with Hindi, Urdu and Odia also spoken. Its climate and its calendar both affect a gym.
Heat, humidity and the monsoon
Kolkata has a hot, humid stretch from March to June and monsoon rain from June to September. Waterlogging after heavy rain is a known problem in the city. Members are less likely to travel to a gym on those days. This is our reasoning, not a measure of any gym, so compare your own attendance by month. If the dip is real, a stronger ventilation and cooling setup, a rainy-season offer code or a freeze option for members who cannot travel keeps them on your list.
Durga Puja and the festival calendar
Durga Puja is the biggest event in Kolkata's year, and for several days many people travel, host or pandal-hop. Plan for fewer visits during Puja and a rush after it as people start new routines. A code like "after Puja" created in Jimwala with a limit and an expiry date, plus a referral reward of free days for bringing a friend, uses that moment. Freeze lets a member who is away keep their plan.
Bengali-speaking members
Jimwala's own screens are in English and Hindi, not Bengali. You can still write your reminder messages and offers in Bengali, and members see them on WhatsApp in whatever language you write them. If you want everything in Bengali, tell us. We would rather say this plainly than promise a Bengali interface we do not have.
UPI and receipts
Payment links with the exact amount, paid to your own UPI ID, keep fees clean. Part payments stay open as dues, and every receipt reaches the member on WhatsApp. If you are GST-registered, Jimwala issues GST tax invoices, and if you are not, it issues plain fee receipts.
Be found by neighbourhood
In a city this big, searches are local: Salt Lake, New Town, Behala, Garia, Dum Dum and others. Salt Lake is also home to Sector V, the IT hub. Put your neighbourhood and a landmark in your Google Business Profile, add real photos and link your free Jimwala gym page.

Google also suggests searches such as "gym setup cost in kolkata", which our guide on gym setup costs and business plans answers in general terms. We could not source the number of gyms or typical fees in Kolkata, so we have not stated them.
